NetApp FAS3250 reports "The request is not supported" in response to FindNextChangeNotification

I am writing a Windows service for a customer to monitor a folder on their NetApp FAS3250 for new files. I receive an error "The request is not supported" when making the call to FindNextChangeNotification to the device driver. Does anyone know why the driver responds with this message? Is the device truly just not compatible with this call? Or is there a known workaround?
