FAS2552 UTA2 ports in 10GbE mode

Hi all,

I believe/hope that the answer to this question is Yes, but I really want clarification as the server in question is several hundred miles away in a different country.

We are moving the equipment to a new office in the next few weeks and taking the opportunity to do some network upgrades.

FAS2552

Data ONTAP 8.3.2P5

We have 2 free UTA2 ports (e0c & e0d) on each of the two nodes.

Will they work in 10GbE mode if I plug the correct SFP+ modules (X6589-R6 or equivalent) in?

I know that there are some issues relating to 1GbE support but I'm not worried about that.

Answer is "Yes"

while in doubt, you can always check in hwu.netapp.com

If that wasn't clear, you can search for "Installation and Setup Instructions FAS2552 Systems" pdf file..

which will give you lil more cabling details.. (all this info plus a lot more.. is there in the hwu.netapp.com)

In addition to changing to the correct 10GbE SFP's, you also need to ensure that the port pair is in the correct mode: CNA mode. By default, the ports are in FC mode.

Use the command: system node hardware unified-connect modify

Notes:

The mode applies to both ports in the "pair" - for FAS2552, the port pairs are e0c/e0d and e0e/e0f (or for FC, 0c/0d and 0e/ef)
After changing the mode, you must reboot the node for the change to take effect

After reboot, you can verify things are set up correctly:

command: system node hardware unified-connect show
sysconfig or sysconfig -a: you'll see e0c and e0d in the output, now.
