Hi,

We have a AFF-A250 and upon setting up the cluster we keep getting this error message which appears when we try to add in the second node to the cluster.

Unused cluster ports exist in the cluster. One or more ports may not be in the "healthy" state, or may be incorrectly assigned to the "Cluster" Ipspace. Correct any issues, and then try the operation again.

e0M is for management and e0c & e0d are used for the cluster interconnect. No other ports are used as yet.

Any ideas ?

Thanks,

You need to make sure that the cluster/ha ports are properly connected.

There's a few useful KB articles covering this error. It could be miscabling or it could be that you have ports that should be in the Cluster IPspace or vice-versa (they're supposed to be Cluster, but are in the data IPspace).
For an AFF A250, ports e0c and e0d should be in the Cluster IPspace.
https://kb.netapp.com/Special:Search?query=Unused+cluster+ports+exist+in+the+cluster&type=wiki

after a lot of searching found this

How to decommission or repurpose an HA Pair with ONTAP 9 - NetApp Knowledge Base

Also the issue was down the e0a being in the default IPSPACE and broadcast domain. What we did was disconnect all cables apart from e0m and e0c&d and then go through the guide above. Thanks for the pointers above
