NetApp Certification for a NetApp Newbie

Hi All,

I am looking at learning about NetApp for possible future employment, however, i have no previous experience with NetApp products.

I have been looking at getting a basic certification to gain some experience with the products.

My current employer does not use NetApp but i am seeing this as an increasing requirement.

Any pointers would be good. Been thinking of buying a netapp device from ebay just to "play" with.

All comments gratefully received.

Hi James,

For individuals new to NetApp products and certification, my recommendation is to look at the NetApp Certified Storage Associate certification (information found here: http://www.netapp.com/us/services-support/university/certification/ncsa/index.aspx). This certification is precisely for individuals new to NetApp products and technologies. An overview of this certification is found on this initial page. Recommended preparation is found on the Prepare tab. These are all web-based courses and provide you with the information needed to earn this certification. Once you are ready to take the exam, click on the Exam tab.

Once you have gained this basic knowledge, identify what type of role you would like to explore and follow the recommended training on the NetApp Certification page (http://www.netapp.com/us/services-support/university/certification/index.aspx). All of our certifications are listed by job role. The next logical certification to explore would be the NetApp Certified Data Administrator. Click on the link of the technology you are interested in (Clustered Data ONTAP or 7-Mode).

Hi Greg,

Thanks for coming back to me so quick. I have now started the free web training.

1 thing though, i have gone through the Virtualization Fundamentals and watched all. The completion notification in the top left went to green and said i had completed but there was no exit but so closed the tab but it doesnt appear to have recorded that i went through it.

Looking forward to the next web training over the next few days.

Hi James,

Try launching the course again and confirm that it has saved your progress and then exit the course. Sometimes, the browser times-out causing the issue you mention. If that doesn't occur, then please contact NetAppU Support at netappusupport@netapp.com (it's best that you contact them directly because if I contact them it will open the ticket for my email account instead of yours). Let them know about this issue and they can manually mark the course as complete in the LMS.

I am having problem accessing the learning modules. When I click on Storage Fundamentals (WBT) at http://www.netapp.com/us/services-support/university/certification/ncsa/ncsa-prepare.aspx , I get redirected to sabacloud website that gives forbidden message. Please help.

Hi All,

Looks in certification patch NCSA(NS01-145) has updated as NCSA-HC(NS01-146) is it updated one ?

Because I was preparing for NCSA (NS01-145) and when I was about to book for examination I noticed the updated one.

Can I still go for NS01-145 or have to go for NS01-146 ?

Please advice...

Hello Thirupathi,

While there is a newer Net App Certified Storage Asociate exam (NS0-146, NCSA-HC), the NS0-145 exam will still be available until October 21, 2016 and will still earn a valid NetApp Certified Storage Associate certification. The certification will be valid for 27 months from the date earned. I would recommend taking the NS0-145 exam as it is the exam for which you have been preparing.

The difference between the NS0-145 and NS0-146 is the content. Much of the content for the NS0-145 is already in the NS0-146 content, but the NS0-146 content includes more information specific to Hybrid Cloud. You can find the recommended preparation for the NS0-146 exam here: http://www.netapp.com/us/services-support/university/certification/ncsa-hc/ncsa-hc-prepare.aspx

Note that the NS0-145 will be available until December 31, 2016. It will not be available starting 2017.

I've started going through the NCSA-HC curriculum. I noticed that the last five items, "Knowledge Bytes?: netApp Private Storage for AWS", "OnCommand Cloud Manager", "Practice Exam", "Study Guide", and "certification exam" all say, "No classes available" How does one finish all of the pre-reqs? Does the exam have to be taken in-person somewhere?
