      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;We have a linux appliance that doesn't admit NFS protocol, we could only configure a CIFS volume.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Is there any way to setup CIFS to authenticate from linux client with local filer users database without windows domains or groups ?&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Thanks a lot,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;There is an option for /etc/passwd in cifs setup too... if not already in workgroup or domain mode you could setup option 4 in cifs setup for local.&amp;nbsp; Or even workgroup and useradmin user add local users (up to 96).&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>

That is working&amp;nbsp; after:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;1.- "&lt;STRONG&gt;cifs setup"&lt;/STRONG&gt; -&amp;gt; option &lt;STRONG&gt;(4)&lt;/STRONG&gt;&amp;nbsp; etc/passwd and/or NIS/LDAP authentication&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;2.- Filer: "&lt;STRONG&gt;useradmin user add User1 -g Guests&lt;/STRONG&gt;"&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;3.- Fix a password for "User1" with &lt;STRONG&gt;passwd &lt;/STRONG&gt;command&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;4.- Assign "&lt;STRONG&gt;Full Access&lt;/STRONG&gt;" to &lt;SPAN style="text-decoration: underline;"&gt;User1&lt;/SPAN&gt; in share access&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;5.- Adding "*&lt;STRONG&gt;\User1 =&amp;gt; root&lt;/STRONG&gt;" in usermaps file in /etc&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;6.- Mounting the cifs share from linux client as:&amp;nbsp; &lt;STRONG&gt; &lt;/STRONG&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;STRONG&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; mount -t&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; cifs&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; //"filer ip"/"ShareToMap"&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; /"LocalMountPoint"&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; -o user="User1"&lt;/STRONG&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Best regards,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>
