Hello Paksboda,

1) Is it really possible to use StorageGRID as software-only over SSD/Disk or we need to buy appliance compulsory?

Yes, StorageGRID is a software-defined object storage platform. You can deploy on software on VM, or bare-metal with your own hardware, as apposed to our purpose built appliances. Regardless of the deployment method, the management will be identical.

Please see our documentation center for installation methods and guides: https://docs.netapp.com/sgws-113/index.jsp
For example, the below link shows the hardware requirements to install StorageGRID on a Red Hat system.

https://docs.netapp.com/sgws-113/topic/com.netapp.doc.sg-install-rhel/GUID-84F773C9-5063-4CCF-AF7C-1E758134AF1.html

2) What is license cost if I want to use StorageGRID as software-only or with appliance?

The software licensing cost is purely based on storage capacity. It is not bundled with hardware, whether you use your own servers or buy NetApp StorageGRID Appliances.
We offer two license types. Perpetual Software License and Subscription-based Software License.
For detailed pricing information please contact your local NetApp Sales representative.

What is license cost for using StorageGRID as software-only over SSD/SATA?

We are considering StorageGRID as on-premise alternative for our cloud application which is using S3 storage. As most of our on premise customers already have stroage device like SSD/SATA. We are exploring if we can use StorageGRID over that storage device to make overall storage identical and compatible with our product code(which is using S3 APIs now).

I wanted to know two things:

1) Is it really possible to use StorageGRID as software-only over SSD/Disk or we need to buy appliance compulsory?

2) What is license cost if I want to use StorageGRID as software-only or with appliance?

I did try to find this out in various blogs and over NetApp website but I am not able to find answers.
