Hi Hari,

May be my question is not clear enough. The problem is, the customer hasn't set up the qtree quota in the filers; so there is no qtree capacity shown in the DFM. Now, they want to charge the end user by the qtree allocation. How can the user find out how much capacity has been allocated/used by the end users in the DFM? Of course, they can check it out from each server that the qtree mounted on, but this will not be a good idea as there will involve many qtrees and servers which will be time consuming.

Regards,

Terrence Lee

NetApp Global Services

NetApp

852.3605.7700 Main

852.9181.8824 Mobile Phone

terrence.lee@netapp.com

Learn how: netapp.com/guarantee

The customer wants to run the Qtree Chargeback report; however as they didn't set the qtree quotas, there is no qtree capacity available in DFM.

Hi Terrence,

dfm only monitors the quota set on the filer and will not be able to set quota, though you can edit the existing quota on the filer using " dfm quota edit" cli.

Regards,

adai

You can add a "tracking quota" (a hyphen entry) for the qtrees. This

will allow you to monitor the space usage without any restriction on the

space or file usage.

Regards,

Hari

Try setting up "dummy" tree quotas to start. These are quotas with no limits, but it forces ONTAP to trace the space usage which can then allow DFM to run reports on their size.

In /etc/quotas put a dash ("-") where the size limits should be, just like most people do for file limits. Then initialize the quotas. When you're done, the quota report command will show you how much space you have in your qtrees on which you set up your dummy quotas, but won't put a cap on them. Now, DFM should be able to use that to figure out sizes and ulitmatley chargebacks.

Hope this helps.
