QUESTION - Retention periods on Protection Manager

Curious question team ....

We will be setting up protection manager to manage A LOT ( 1000s ) of backups in this coming year. I showed my client the Policies section where they saw the "backup/retention" schedule ( how many days you want to keep backups"

The question i got was ... what if we realize that 90 days is too much to keep because we use too much space and we reduce to 45 days? What happens to the backups that are 46 days and older? Does protection manager delete these since they are now expired based on the modified policy?

Yes.

AFAIR when you change the retention count or duration it applies

for all backups and not those that gets created after that.

To be sure of, I tested it and found that my memory is right.

Okay ... all backups in that policy now follow the new duration; are the old ones now deleted because they are expired? ( just clarifying 🙂 )

Yes.When the conformance ran, it detected that there are older snapshot than the retention settings of the policy and marked it for deletion.
