For the life of me, I'm unable able to install DSM 4.x on Win 2012R2. I keep getting the "You need to be an administrator to install this product" message. I turned off the UAC in control panel. I even tried a local admin account to the machine that I was install the DSM on. I even tried shift+run as a different user.

has anyone successfully installed this on a 2012 server?

I had the same problem with Windows Serer 2012 R2 while aatempting to install DSM 4.1P1. I started a command prompt using right-click "run as administrator, then ran msiexec /package "name of file" and it worked.
