How to find users who are using up too much shared disk space

We have departmental shares and once in a while, users decide to dump 100 GB of data, thereby filling up the whole volume and preventing write access to all other users. Sometimes users run application off the shares and this creates 200 GB of temp files. I have spent hours tracking down these users.

Is there a better way to find these users? Some graph or GUI that will instantly who me who is suddenly dumping data? or perhaps who dumped the most data in the last 1 hour? Or who used up the most disk space in the last 20 mins?

Turn user quotas on to report on them.
