Replacement for volume counters?

On 8.3 it says the volume object is going to be deprecated and removed in a future release. The catalog "replaced-by" field is empty. What is going to replace this? Is there an ETA on it's removal?

Did you ever get a reply or find out what the volume performance counters were replaced with ?

Seems like this was swept under our feet without much warning...
