With disk drives continuing to increase insize, data protection is more challenging than ever. Larger disk size means thetime needed to reconstruct a failed disk has become significantly longer, and asecond disk failure or other error could occur before reconstruction cancomplete. The likelihood of bit and block errors also increases proportionallywith media size. NetApp’s pioneering dual-parity RAID implementation, RAID-DP®,addresses this problem. While other dual-parity RAID 6 implementations exist, only RAID-DP technology protects against double disk failures in the same RAIDgroup with no significant decreases in performance.
