backup vms from multiple datacenters

is this a supported configuration for snapcenter plugin for vmware vsphere 8.x?

Datacenter 1 - location 1

- Snapcenter appliance installed and virtual center server

- several VMs

- VMs are on NFS stores provided by the Netapp.

=> backup of vms are working through snapshots

Datacenter 2 - location 2

- same virtual center server who manage the ESXi Hosts but no additional Snapcenter appliance deployed.

- several VMs also on NFS store provided from a different Netapp

=> goal: Backup VMs with snapshots from SCV in datacenter1

Currently the backup runs also on Vms on datacenter2 but it creates the snapshot on the NFS store from Datacenter1? Therefore restore will not work.

Hi Patrick,

To troubleshoot this, you might want to consider the following options for VMs with multiple VMDKs across multiple datastores:

Spanning datastores of the VM’s, if yes you shall try the below options:

Modify the resource group on the Spanning disks page, select an option for VMs with multiple VMDKs across multiple datastores:
Always exclude all spanning datastores (This is the default for datastores.)
Always include all spanning datastores (This is the default for VMs.)
Manually select the spanning datastores to be included
Note: Spanning VMs are not supported for FlexGroup and vVol datastores.

2. Validate the Resource groups if any of the VM’s / Datastore’s of DataCenter1 is added for backups.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, I highly recommend creating a support case with us. This will allow for a more thorough understanding through log analysis and appropriate resolution steps.

thanks for your reply, I already opened a case with Netapp but they told me it is a configuration issue not a technical problem. So I will create a new one.

Get in touch with a consultant as well and he was surprised as well so waiting for his feedback as well...

Regarding the options, played around but still the same.
