topic SMVI Exclude Specific VM Quiesce in VMware Solutions Discussions

We are doing a consistent backup on our NetApp volumes where it performs a VMWare snapshot before the volume snapshot occurs. We have alot of VMs that we don't need to quiesce before the snapshot occurs. Is there a way to exclude specific VMs from having a VMware snapshot prior to the volume snapshot? I'd like it to just skip over creating a VMware snapshot for these specific VMs becasue we don't need them quiesced.

Thanks.

Rick

The only way I know of is to split it into two SMVI jobs. One that does and one that does not quisce

That's correct. you can create separate jobs

1) job 1- put all the VMs which need VMware snapshots

2)job2 - Put all VMs that need NetApp snapshots

REgards

Amrita

I thought backup jobs were volume based where it looks at all the VMs on the volume and creates a VMware snapshot/or not based on the policy. Can you setup a backup policy based on VM name and not just volume?

Hi

Snapshots are volume based. But the you can create separate backup jobs for VMs and datastores.

REgards

Amrita
