Hi,

Suddenly our SMVI application has stopped working in 1 of our installations and I cannot figure out why.

I can run the program, connect to my filers, but when I click on Backup I can only see the VMware datacenter name but no VMs (and the backup button is greyed out).

Also, we are getting the following errors in our Windows event log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: SMVI
Event Category: Error
Event ID: 4096
Date: 22/10/2009
Time: 15:15:04
User: N/A
Computer: BNK-VC01
Description:
3335716672 [backup1 050e3ac493066616903b67bdb66e07f8] ERROR com.netapp.common.flow.TaskInstanceTemplate - FLOW-11019: Failure in GetBackedupDatastoreList: Did not find any backedup datastore
java.lang.RuntimeException: Did not find any backedup datastore at com.netapp.smvi.task.GetBackedupDatastoreList.execute(GetBackedupDatastoreList.java:58) at com.netapp.common.flow.TaskInstanceTemplate.execute(TaskInstanceTemplate.java:281) at com.netapp.common.flow.Operation.executeCurrentStack(Operation.java:132) at com.netapp.common.flow.Operation.execute(Operation.java:52) at com.netapp.common.flow.Threadpool$OperationThread.run(Threadpool.java:242)

Event Type: Error
Event Source: SMVI
Event Category: Error
Event ID: 4096
Date: 22/10/2009
Time: 15:15:04
User: N/A
Computer: BNK-VC01
Description:
3335716672 [backup1 050e3ac493066616903b67bdb66e07f8] ERROR com.netapp.common.flow.Operation - FLOW-11008: Operation failed: Did not find any backedup datastore
java.lang.RuntimeException: Did not find any backedup datastore at com.netapp.smvi.task.GetBackedupDatastoreList.execute(GetBackedupDatastoreList.java:58) at com.netapp.common.flow.TaskInstanceTemplate.execute(TaskInstanceTemplate.java:281) at com.netapp.common.flow.Operation.executeCurrentStack(Operation.java:132) at com.netapp.common.flow.Operation.execute(Operation.java:52) at com.netapp.common.flow.Threadpool$OperationThread.run(Threadpool.java:242)

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: SMVI
Event Category: Warn
Event ID: 4096
Date: 22/10/2009
Time: 15:15:09
User: N/A
Computer: BNK-VC01
Description:
3335721828 [update-job1 acff7b51d94f19ec54e8be837801ce34] WARN com.netapp.smvi.task.schedule.ListJobAction - Did not find any jobs

Any ideas?

//M

I too am getting the same problem.

The last thing I noticed we did is applied the October 2009 patches to our Virtual Center server. and that night, SMVI broke. now even putting SMVI on another server it won't connect to the vSphere and find the luns. I tried uninstalled the patches, but that didn't help. Microsoft patches generally don't revert to the last setting even if you uninstalled them...

Had a ticket into support and they are currently looking at it, hopefully, we'll have a resolution soon.

Please reply if you found a solution for it.

Great. Can you let me know how it goes with the patch?

This would actually make a lot of sense - I just checked our 2 VC servers which are also running SMVI (both servers are running Windows 2003 Server Standard R2) - and 1 of them has been patched with the latest critical updates from MS, and the other not. On the server thats not been udpated there are a whole bunch of updates including some for .Net - this is the only difference between the 2 servers.

Thanks,

Marc
