The hosts have got 2 dedicated 1Gbps NICs to connect thgough a gb switch to the storage device. The DAVG (device latency) is from 3000 to 5000 ms. and VMs are completely unresponsive. Pings from the hosts to the storage are fine - 0.1ms. I found the issue: it was network2 interface incorrectly set to... wait for it!... 100Mbps half duplex.
