NetApp and St. Baldrick’s: a History of Giving

NetApp and St. Baldrick’s: a History of Giving - Worldwide, 175,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. And in the U.S., more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease—more than AIDS, asthma, cystic fibrosis, congenital anomalies and diabetes combined. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is focused on one thing, funding childhood cancer research. Since 2005, St. Baldrick’s has funded more than $103 million in new grants. Since 2000 they have had over 276,000 shavees! It’s humbling to go bald, but nothing in comparison to children facing a fight against cancer.


NetApp’s commitment to supporting the charitable work of its employees is surely a driving factor behind what makes NetApp a “Great Place to Work.” There are many charities that NetApp employees support, and much of the workforce takes advantage of Volunteer Days Off by giving time to various local organizations. Bill Hogan and Joey Santamorena hosted the inaugural NetApp/St. Baldrick’s event, dubbed “Bill and Joey’s Excellent Shaving Adventure,” in 2007. What has happened from there has been magical. In the years since, the generosity of NetApp employees, partners, customers, family, friends and over 1,200 shavees have raised over $3.5M across 56 shaving events worldwide. Customers have even joined forces with NetApp to grow awareness and support of children’s cancer research as detailed in this blog.
