Re: Problem with snapmanager for sharepoint 6

I suggest that you try excluding the sharedservices1_search_db database from the backup plan and try to take another backup.

If the backup is successful after excluding the sharedservices1_search_db database, then add the sharedservices1_search_db database back into the backup plan.

Ensure that the search crawl is paused/stopped for that SSP prior to kicking off another SMSP backup.

Thanks,
Mark

Re: Problem with snapmanager for sharepoint 6

I've excluded SharedServices1 and theres still a lot of failed parts..

Tried to backup the config only.. and it failed as well.

The crawl pauses as normal..

Re: Problem with snapmanager for sharepoint 6

Hello,

Did you ever find a solution?  I am having the exact same error in my first attempt at a backup in SP 2010.

Thanks

Nelson

Re: Problem with snapmanager for sharepoint 6

No.. sorry.. But when i checked the logs.. all snaphosts are fine and all verifications..

Re: Problem with snapmanager for sharepoint 6

Yeah, same here.

I have been trying to get this working since December.  I am about ready to throw up the white flag and go with another product.  The level of complexity to get this working is amazing:  SnapDrive, SnapManager for SQL, SnapManager for SharePoint, System DBs and Users DBs have to be on different volumes, SnapInfo has to be on its own volume, different agents go on different machines...my head is spinning.

Problem with snapmanager for sharepoint 6

I'm not normally one to just moan, but we just spent weeks on the phone with Netapp support trying to get SMSP to work. Eventually we got it all sorted.

Now it's stopped working, obviously something has changed, but where to start..??

not looking forward to fixing this one.

Problem with snapmanager for sharepoint 6

Hi,

Can you please share more details on what stopped working and what you think might have changed etc.?

Problem with snapmanager for sharepoint 6

My company is looking at getting Snapmanager. After reading all the problems, I might go with docave. Has anyone compared these two side by side.

Re: Problem with snapmanager for sharepoint 6

Hi

I am having the exact issue with all the latest versions of each component, Snap Drive (6.4 x64), Snap Manager for SQL (5.2 x64) and Snap Manager for Sharepoint (6.1 x64). We are running MS Sharepoint 2010 on Windows 2008 R2. All SQL and Sharepoint volumes are presented over iSCSI and are RDM Luns.

Have any of you resolved this issue yet, I have been trying to get this SMSP config working 100% since September with assistance from NetApp!

Thanks

Andrew

Re: Problem with snapmanager for sharepoint 6

Hi Andrew,

Do you have any logs, or events from the servers in the farm that you can share?  Also, have you confirmed the correct roles are assigned to the account being used on each database in SQL?

Re: Problem with snapmanager for sharepoint 6

Hi Pratt

Yes all roles are assigned correctly based on recommendations from NetApp support.

Re: Problem with snapmanager for sharepoint 6

Hello Andrew,

Thanks for the info.  I have seen this type of issue before, and what I think could be happening is a "character limit issue".  As you see when SharePoint creates the database it adds a GUID to the name of the database which makes the DB name lenghty.  In the past there was a limitation for DB name from 70-80 characters, and a path of up to 260 characters. If this character limit is passed, it will result in failed backups.

What I see in the field is, the DB names are modified (Shortened), or created prior with shortend names, or even shortend paths (i.e. volume/qtree/lun/db name). There are resources on the net that speak to shortening the SharePoint DB names.

Now, I am not sure this is your issue, but based on the logs you posted, thats what stood out.  I will say, I had a custormer with this exact issue, and shortening the name resolved the issue.  Hope this helps.

Re: Problem with snapmanager for sharepoint 6

Thank you for your prompt response Pratt, I will investigate this today.

Re: Problem with snapmanager for sharepoint 6

I just ran a backup of one component at that also failed, the name is within that character limit though:

Path:Farm(Farm)\SP2010_Config_S-HO-SPDB01,Status:Failed;
Error During Backup Raw DB: Backup DB Error :SP2010_Config
Path:Farm(Farm)\WSS_Administration\SharePoint Central Administration v4\SP2010_AdminContent_S-HO-SPDB01,Status:Failed;
Error During Backup Raw DB: Backup DB Error :SP2010_AdminContent

Statistical Result: 762 MB data, 0(0) site collections, 0(0) sites, 0(0) lists, 0(0) items.

Re: Problem with snapmanager for sharepoint 6

Thanks for the update Andrew.

Quick question - does this database reside on the same LUN or in the same Volume as those with the longer DB names?
