Backing up UNIX security style volume using a Windows client

We have a volume set to UNIX style permissions and we're trying to back it up using software running on Windows.  From my understanding of this doc (http://www.netapp.com/us/media/tr-3490.pdf) it's best not to set it to MIXED style permissions so my question is — what is the best way to make this volume readable from a Windows client without messing with the security style?  Is NDMP the only way?

Thanks

HI

maybe you can try with the user mapping option. For example you can map the Windows backup software user account to and unix user that has access to the files in the volume
