DB SnapShot Not Consistent without Snapmanager ??

Hi All,

We are planning to SnapVault one of the DB LUN and i have heard that SnapVaulting a DB LUN without a SNAPMANAGER will not have consistent snapshots at the SnapVault destination as Snapvault is based on Snapshots. Is this true is there any other choice to do this without SnapManager ???. Please advise.

That's true. In SAN environments the host is responsible for consistency not the storage system.

In NAS environment its vice versa. To get a consistent snap the host must flush it's data to disk, then halt storage operations and tell the storage system to do a snap.

This is done with SnapManager products which take care of all of this.
