Data Backup and Recovery
Data Backup and Recovery
Hello All,
Is there a NetApp product or service offering that would allow my sales force to VPN in and have a Dropbox like repository of their confidential customer data? I am open to any suggestions of any products you have used. My challenge is that I am a new network admin for a worldwide organization and using any "cloud" based services other than ones we can control are not an option.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Maybe not from NetApp....
Have a look at http://www.teamdrive.com/ and give it a try.
You can manage your own Cloud System for the Sharing Service and place it on a NetApp System 😉
If connectivity through VPN is a requirement for security purposes, then any old network share would work. VPN in, access share.
SharePoint
Sorry, we do not have sharepoint as of yet. But thank you for replying.
Dropbox for the enterprise: VMware is currently underway to bring a dropbox-like software for the enterprise. The project is called Project Octopus http://www.vmwareoctopus.com/
I agree something like Project Octopus can become a close dropbox equivalent.
Personally I don't love Windows local synchronisation of a network share, but technically speaking it ticks one of the key boxes of a dropbox-like functionality: the same file can be accessed online & offline & will be automatically updated, should a change to it be made.
Regards,
Radek
This is one of the ones to look out for. When VMware does anything, they usually sweeps the market...

That looks like a viable option. I'll look into it and let you know. Thank you all for your support and help!
Looks nice enough, but do they have anything for the enterprise ready for delivery yet?
http://www.securetransfer.de/ is Running on our Netapp
You can use:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/webdisk/
we are using it on several filers and it works ok.
You can also try http://owncloud.org/ - it has still some bugs but i know some people who use it and are happy with the working features. You have to evaluate it yourself.
