The "Raw DB: Backup DB Error" error indicates that SMSQL encountered an error while attempting to snapshot those SharePoint DBs.  On the SQL server that hosts those SharePoint DBs open up the SMSQL Management Console, go under reports > backups and find the backup job report that matches with the failed SMSP jobs; what does the detail of that backup report say?

Hi Michael,

I have been experiencing the same issue here, I have checked the relative SMSQL logs and they are running fine, all databases are backing up without any isuses and the snapshots are appearing on the volume as you would expect them to, yet the error is still appearing in the SMSP backup logs. Confused as I am getting conflicting reports!

Hi Edward-

What are the exact versions of SMSQL and SMSP that you are using?   I've seen the "Error During Backup Raw DB" error even when the SMSQL backup report shows success due to a compatibility issue between certain versions of SMSP & SMSQL.

We are using SMSP Version 6.0 and SMSQL 5.1. If it helps we are also running Snapdrive 6.3.1R1 on our VMs.

I checked into it and the issue I was thinking of was for SMSP 6.0 with SMSQL 5.2 or greater (which is not a supported combination per the interop matrix.)  It shouldn't be an issue with SMSP 6.0 and SMSQL 5.1.

In any event all of versions you mentioned are quite dated; may want to consider updating to newer versions (staying at SMSP 6.x to keep it as an in-place upgrade.)  Be sure the validate the SMSP/SMSQL/SnapDrive combination in the IMT first - http://support.netapp.com/matrix.
