SC4.6 Exchange Restore

All,

When attempting an Exchange restore operation in SnapCenter, does the original DB get overwritten in the end?   If yes, is it possible to mount the DB from snapshot  as an RDB (Recovery Database) to restore content, as opposed to having to replay logs (that may not be available), etc?

Thanks!

If you just want to restore some content (emails/data) from exchange DB, then no need to perform full-db-restore. Instead, try and use the SMBR tool. This will allow you to download the 'content' from the exchange DB using standard MAPI protocol . Most importantly, this will avoid having to restore & overwrite the  complete exchange database.

Thank you for the reply back @Ontapforrum .  My apologies, I forgot to mention we have been using SMBR to restore content, but it's sloooow.

We have since opted to not do a full restore, since it is a complete overwrite of the current DB.  We have been exploring creating an RDB with eseutil and its different switches, to hopefully speed up the recovery process...if it works.

Ok.. I see your point. Yes, slowness is a inconvenience factor for this tool. There is defect, but looks like you are already on the higher version. Check the SMBR version if that's affected.
