Data Backup and Recovery
Hello
I'm just trying out smtape for a SAS-attached tape library Quantum Scalar i40, but don't seem to get any further with the commands. This is what I entered:
FILER02> sysconfig -t
Tape drive (0a.00.210) Hewlett-Packard LTO-6
rst0l - rewind device, format is: LTO-4/5 Native Density
nrst0l - no rewind device, format is: LTO-4/5 Native Density
urst0l - unload/reload device, format is: LTO-4/5 Native Density
rst0m - rewind device, format is: LTO-4/5 Compressed
nrst0m - no rewind device, format is: LTO-4/5 Compressed
urst0m - unload/reload device, format is: LTO-4/5 Compressed
rst0h - rewind device, format is: LTO-6 2.5TB
nrst0h - no rewind device, format is: LTO-6 2.5TB
urst0h - unload/reload device, format is: LTO-6 2.5TB
rst0a - rewind device, format is: LTO-6 6.25TB Compressed
nrst0a - no rewind device, format is: LTO-6 6.25TB Compressed
urst0a - unload/reload device, format is: LTO-6 6.25TB Compressed
FILER02> smtape backup /vol/sm_cifs_daily rst0h
Job 18 started.
FILER02> Mon May 12 17:45:36 CEST [FILER02:smtape.backup.err:error]: Backup of '/vol/sm_cifs_daily' to 'rst0h' failed: smtape: Invalid tape drive rst0h in tape argument list.
FILER02>
I tried all the listed device names, even the alias "st0". Does anybody have an idea what could be going wrong?
Cheers
Chris
Solved! See The Solution
I got it working after I changed the SAS cable where the Quantum was attached from port 0a to the port 0b on my NetApp 2220.

does it work if you use rst0a ? The cli examples show the higher compression device name.
