Error executing "ifconfig vif0-99 (value might be overwritten in takeover)" on storage system "Filer1"

Hi All

Today I have upgraded our OCUM from 5.1 to 5.2R1. Since this Upgrade the following Warning appears in the JobLog while a Backup is Running:

Retrieving preferred interfaces

Filer1: Error executing "ifconfig vif0-99  (value might be overwritten in takeover)" on storage system 'Filer1' (40959)

Host is a vFiler, obtaining physical host information

Filer1: Error executing "ifconfig vif0-99  (value might be overwritten in takeover)" on storage system 'Filer1' (40959)

Could not retrieve preferred interfaces for host (Filer1). Using one of the available interfaces which may or may not be the preferred interace

We have 2 FMC Systems. One System with  8.1.4P1 running OK (without warning), the Other FMC System with 8.0.5 brings this warning.

The warning is not the real Problem, because the Job went green after finish, but about this warning all of our snapcreator Jobs finishing with Warning (Yellow).

Know someone a Solution (Workaround) for that Problem?

TIA

Thomas

Hi,

It looks to be related to bug 663903 and was fixed in 5.2P2 (and thus 5.2R1) to provde a better message - it used to log "Error executing operation on storage system".

http://mysupport.netapp.com/NOW/cgi-bin/bol?Type=Detail&Display=663903

In 5.2P2 and higher the error messaging was improved to provide more insight into what went wrong.  If an error is encountered during a backup job when trying to retrieve the preferred interface, a warning message will be logged and the job will continue on the default interface. If there is an impact from this action then setting the dfm option ndmpDataUseAllInterface=1 will tell UM to use any interface so that the warning message will no longer be generated and logged.

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi Kevin

Thanks a lot for your quick answer. I have set the Option ndmpDataUseAllInterface to 1 and now the Warnings are away :-).

Do you know why the "preferred Interface" Thing works on Systems with 8.1.4P1 (Without Warnings) and works not (with warnings) with 8.0.5?

Thanks

Thomas
