NetApp Harvest Issue

Hi,

Our ADVA was running fine until today when we realised it had run out of disk space. We increased the disk space but now we are getting no metrics, the Grafana and Carbon service are both running but Harvest systems and Harvest OCUM servers will not start. The following error is seen in the log of each poller:

[2017-01-11 09:51:14] [ERROR  ] [main] Required parameter [auth_type] unexpected value (not password or ssl_cert)
[2017-01-11 09:51:14] [ERROR  ] [main] Required parameter [graphite_root] not defined
[2017-01-11 09:51:14] [ERROR  ] [main] Required parameter [graphite_meta_metrics_root] not defined
[2017-01-11 09:51:14] [ERROR  ] [main] Required parameter [graphite_server] not defined

We are running the following:

Version 2.1 (2016-09-19) Visit Web Page

NetApp SDK v5.6 installed Visit Web Page (NetApp Login Required)
Harvest v1.2.2 installed Visit Web Page (NetApp Login Required)
Grafana v3.1.1 installed Visit Web Page
Graphite v0.10.0 rc1 installed Visit Web Page

Turned out that there was a lot of entries missing from netapp-harvest.conf, maybe have been casued by adding the OCUM harvest details when the disk had filled? Resolved by restoring file from previous.

Hi @PaulF

Great to hear you solved it yourself!  A newer version of the OVA and Harvest are also both available.  With the newer OVA you get bug fixes in the admin interface, and with a newer version of Harvest you get support for the latest ONTAP and OCUM releases.  I blogged about it here if you want to read more.  The OVA also has a new home (and name, from ADVA -> NAbox) here.

Hi @madden

Thanks for the reply, i've installed the new NVA today and like the overall look. Is there a way to export our old dashboards and add them to the new box?

Thanks

Paul

Hi @PaulF

You can do it manually from the Grafana GUI (click the share icon and then export, then take that file and import) or you can do it in bulk using netapp-manager from Harvest.

This snippet from the Harvest admin guide about exporting:

export.png

If you use the -export with the old server and API keyconfigured in the netapp-harvest.conf file, and then -import with the new server and API key configured, you will basically move all dashboards.  If you want to move a subset of dashboards (ex: you have a Harvest 1.2 on the old server and 1.3 on the new one) after you do the export delete the ones you don't want to move, then do the import.  You could also rename the grafana subdir temporarily to help move only a subset.

Hope this helps!
