Hello ad,

Unfortunately, when using cDOT, for the SVM to provide CIFS/SMB shares it must be joined to a domain.

EDIT: Also, see this post.

Hi,

Before users can create SMB connections to access data contained on the Storage Virtual Machine (SVM), they must be
authenticated by the domain to which the CIFS server belongs.

For more details please refer https://library.netapp.com/ecm/ecm_download_file/ECMP1610207

Thanks

Note that although its true, the SVM must be joined to a domain to provide cifs services, the client machine & the user do not have to be domain members or have domain accounts.  They can have a local user account within the context of the SVM and authenticate as SVMNAME\user.   SVMNAME is the CIFS Server name specified when the SVM was joined to the domain, not necessarily the name of the SVM itself.
