Can FAS270 module be placed inside a DS14mk2-FC shelf?

We have a FAS270 with shelf NA P/N: 109-00022+A0.  pretty certain the shelf has some bad slots.  The question is can we move the FAS270 cpu + all disks to a new DS14MK2-FC shelf?

Basically, can any DS14MK2-FC be turned into a FAS270 by simply placing the FAS270 in the lower slot? Or a special shelf is needed to allow the FAS270 module to function correctly.

This is using OnTAP 7.2.6.1.

I don't need the whole FAS270 unit, just the empty shelf..  Power supplies and CPU modules are verified as OK..

Reading online it was hard to get a solid answer to this.

Thanks.

Stormy.

There is no problem with doing this.  The FAS270 is just a shelf with controllers instead of ESH2 modules.

Yes, it's possible, and it's working. But officially not supported, of course (it does not matter now for FAS270 😉

Please keep in mind, what internal FC bus speed for FAS270 controller is only 1Gb/s, it may cause a problems with some (relatively) new FC HDD.

That is most interesting remark about FAS270 + newer FC disks..  Is there any way to distinguish or somehow test/isolate such a incompatible disks?  Filer works "OK" until it loses sync to random disks and panics.  Tried different FAS270 module and still it fails in the same way. Verified the terminator is set to ON and speed 1Gbps, reseated all disks and rearranged into different slots (for 0 & 1), still same failures, hence suspecting the shelf itself.. but remark about disk incompatibility might be the cause since this instability started with a disk failure.. at this point not sure which disk was replaced..

Original problem was that FAS270 reported an open loop. Tried replacing disks, module, etc. no avail. Eventually got a used DS14MK2 shelf, replaced only the shelf, and problem went away.. must have been something wrong with the shelf..

Anyways, confirmed at least in some cases, the DS14MK2 can accommodate FAS270 module.
