Dedupe

Hello

Over Suinday I tried to run a dedupe using the -s option , the volume is 1.3TB in size and is 94 percent full.  The scan ran for around 4hrs and only scanned 350gig of date.

I had to stop the dedupe as it would had ran into the backup times.

My question is will I have to cancel the backups and re-run this over a whole weekend or can the volume be deduped in stages ?

Any help on this would be great

Many thanks, John

Hello John,

Thanks for your question.  Each time you stop deduplication it will create a checkpoint.  The next time it starts it will use that checkpoint automatically if it was less than than 24hrs old.  You can force it to use an older checkpoint by using the -sp option.  See below taken from TR-3958.

sis start –s </vol/volname>

Begins deduplication of existing data on the flexible volume specified. It will use the latest checkpoint if one exists and is less than 24 hours old.

sis start –sp <vol/volname >

Begins deduplication of existing data on the flexible volume specified using the existing checkpoint information, regardless of the age of the checkpoint information. This option should only be used with the –s option.

Hope that answers it for you.
