Future proofing?

I'm in a customer environment that includes some MIPS and x86_32 based filers.

Explaining to the customer that gear that went EOA in 2009 won't be able to make the cut for ONTAP 8.0 is causing some bad feelings.

Where can I find statements about how long new versions of ONTAP will be available for currently shipping equipment?

Thanks,

We have not gotten good information on this topic.  For example, the 6030 went out of SW support earlier this year but lists as being supported for 8.1 (not out yet).  Yet, the ESH2 disk shelf modules we have went out of SW support this fall and cannot be used if going to 8.1.  So even if it goes out of support, what exactly does that mean?

My best guess is to keep an eye on the support cycle list.  If you have a part that is schedule for End of Support, press your rep for a solid answer to your specific part.  With modular arrays and many customers replacing pieces due to pain points, we end up with a hodgepodge of parts that may or may not make it into the next major release and there is nothing to tell you what's going to happen next.

Sorry
