How do Asis and snapshots work

I am running ASIS and I noticed when I first

ran it I saw a snapshot.

Does Asiis take a snapshot everytime it runs?

In my environment we have non space gaurentted Volumes and Luns.  We do not use  sanpshots.  Because of this my volumes ar eonly a little bit bigger than my luns.  My fear if I have a very full lun, and Asis on a voulme, If Asis  creates a snapshot when it runs, that snapshoot could interfer with my lun and take it offline?  Is this a possblity?

Thanks

Bob

Bob,

A-SIS only takes a snapshot when start runs with the -s flag.  All A-SIS updates are start commands without the -s flag and do not take snapshots.

Thanks,

Mitchell,

Did you mean "All A-SIS updates are start commands WITHOUT the -s flag and do not take snapshots."  Since A-SIS only takes a snapshot when start runs with the -s flag I would assume snapshots happen with updates.

Bob,

I fixed my post.  The snapshot is not needed because A-SIS just reads the change journal when a sis start command is issued to know which blocks need to be deduplicated.

Thanks,

Mitchell
