Question regarding Report field definitions

Hi,

could someone give me an "official" definition/explanation and the differences of the Report fields "Volume Effective Used" and "Volume Physical Used" ?

From my experiences the output of both field are identical and are not the values the customer would expect. Customer expectations are, that the outputs should be the values of "aggr show_space" to see, how many space a volume will "effective" use, but both values displays the output of "df".

Thanks

Thorsten

Hi Thorsten,

“Volume Physical Used” refers “Displays the active file system data in the volume with deduplication space savings” .(that is after Dedupe run on this volume)

“Volume Effective Used” refers to “Displays the active file system data in the volume without deduplication space savings (that is, if deduplication has not been enabled on the volume)”.

For example consider a volume of size 100GB and say used space is 40GB. If Dedupe is not run for this volume, then both “Physical Used” and “Effective used” are 40GB.

Now say dedupe is run and the space savings due to dedupe is 15GB.

Now the “Physical Used Space” is 25GB and the “Effective Used Space” is 40GB.

Thanks,

KJag
