I was testing SnapRestore and caught an error:

na01> snap restore -t file -s hourly.2 /vol/cifsvol/dfmsetup-4-0-2-win32.exe

WARNING! This will restore a file from a snapshot into the active

filesystem.  If the file already exists in the active filesystem,

it will be overwritten with the contents from the snapshot.

Are you sure you want to do this? y

You have selected file /vol/cifsvol/dfmsetup-4-0-2-win32.exe, snapshot hourly.2

Proceed with restore? y

snap restore error: Inappropriate file type or format.

na01> version

NetApp Release 8.1.1 7-Mode: Mon Jul 30 12:49:46 PDT 2012

This file fails to restore from other snapshots but I can read it manually from ~snapshot dir. Other files from the same snapshots are restored normally.

What's wrong with this particular file?

resolved, snap restore doesn't support restoring files with NTFS streams, must use manual copy&paste in such cases.
