FAS2552 in 7 mode cifs - upgrade AD from 2012 to 2019

We have recently upgraded our Windows servers from 2012r2 to 2019 and would like to raise the AD from 2012 to 2019 but I would like to know if that will cause any effect on our cifs shares that NetApp is hosting.

NetApp Release 8.2.5P3 7-Mode

SMB2 is enabled.

Thanks.

There is 2 options for smb2.

The one related to the dc connection is " options cifs.smb2.client.enable " this option should be on for the dc to connect to the netapp via smb2.

Hello,

Based on our Matrix, this should be supported with the version of Ontap and AD/DC version. You can check and verify via the link below (Choose the CIFS compatibility matrix):

You may have to enable SMB2 client. https://kb.netapp.com/Support_Bulletins%2FCustomer_Bulletins%2FSU18

(SMB1 is default)

SMB2 is on.  I did check, and the only smb1 connections are coming from my Unitrends backup appliance.  It has SMB2 enabled so I am not sure why it is connecting via smb1.  I assume if I don't disable smb1 on the NetApp that will continue to work.

Excellent point!  That setting is off for us currently.  Are there any 'gotchas' I should be aware of before enabling that?

I found these 2 articles that indicate changing this setting is non-disruptive:

https://serverfault.com/questions/125295/does-enabling-smb2-on-a-netapp-filer-require-a-cifs-restart

No that should be it. Everything is covered in the KB I linked above too, so I'd encourage a good read.

Let us know if there are any questions.

The setting is enabled.  So far no disruptions.  Thank you.
