Questions on DS2246 Module Swapping and Cabling

I am looking into setting up a setof Netapp DS2246 units. They originally were bought as a set of 3, but have been split into a 2 unit group and a single unit group. I wanted to confirm a few things before I attempted to make some changes.

1. It appears all of the controller units are in one of the shelves. Is it possible to swap the one of the controller units with oneof the SAS modules without causing issues? As far as I am aware, these units have never been configured or used. We'd like both the 2 unit and the single shelf unit to be able ot be used as separate storage modules once this is done.

2. Would the normal cabling instructions appliy (Circle to square) after swapping a controller with a SAS module?

Most documentation I have found only speaks of swapping a module with one of the same type, and usually on a live system (which this is not currently).

Any assistance would be helpful.

Hi,

Mixing of IOM module and controller is not possible. Refer to the following Kb for details. https://kb.netapp.com/support/index?page=content&id=3013568&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1449053369978

Thanks.

No, it is not possible. You cannot mix controller and IOM in a single chassis.
