Reset password for NetApp NAF-1201

odmeneu

Hello everybody!

I can't reset password for subject SAN.

I've tried to boot in "Boot mode" using Ctrl+C after restart but there is no options like "reset password" etc.

There was "set to default settings" but after restart (bye command) nothing was changed.

Any assistance will be appriciate.

Thank you in advance.

NAF-1201 is a weird number we have on the chassis - it's a FAS2220. Password reset is in the boot menu - option 3:

(1) Normal Boot.
(2) Boot without /etc/rc.
(3) Change password.
(4) Clean configuration and initialize all disks.
(5) Maintenance mode boot.
(6) Update flash from backup config.
(7) Install new software first.
(8) Reboot node.
Selection (1-8)?

But it sounds like you might have hit the LOADER - if the system is sitting at the LOADER A> (or B) prompt, type "boot_ontap", then when it gives an option to press Control-C, do so and you will get the above menu which will let you reset the password.

I don't know what a NAF-1201 is...

It works!

It's necessary to type "boot_ontap" in boot menu then you are able to see menu with option to reset password.

Thank you 🙂

No problem!

If there system is sitting at the LOADER prompt, there are a couple of reasons why:

  • If the power has just been turned on, if AUTOBOOT (printenv AUTOBOOT) is off/false, it will wait at the LOADER prompt until the "boot_ontap" command is issued, otherwise it will boot ONTAP automatically
  • If there is a problem booting ONTAP automatically, it will return to the LOADER prompt
  • If the system has been halt'ed from inside ONTAP, it will wait at the LOADER prompt until the "boot_ontap" command is issued
