Removing partner drives from a single node FAS980

NetApp noob....Recently put together an old FAS980 system for CIFS. I wanted to add more capacity so I installed more shelves/disks. The new shelves/disks have a "partner" label and wanted to know how to make them available on the current system.

FAS980 had hardware based disk ownership. So disk belongs to filer head based on physical cabling and only full shelf can be owned, not individual disk. It is possible to convert to software based disk ownership, but it really depends on used hardware, dot version etc

Thanks for the reply aborzenkov

In this configuration I have one head in this array. Can you elaborate on the cabling? I have the esh2 cables connecting both loops and FC from head to disks. I'm new to NetApp and really don't have support so any assistance would be appreciated.

In hardware based disk ownership filer owns shelf if it is connected to shelf module A. There is no multipathing possible in this case.
