Storevault replacement drive source

I am the unfortunate owner of a Storevault S550. The device is not even 3 years old and Netapp will not extend support nor will they sell me a replacement drive. Does anyone know where I might be able to obtain a replacement (new or user) 750gb sata drive for an S550?

There are a number of vendors out there who will sell you refurbished discontinued NetApp kit.

eg Smartech Consulting (http://www.smartechconsulting.com/).

You can use regular NetApp disk drives in the S550, so if you manage to find one of these somewhere (ebay etc.) you can just swap the carrier and the S550 will recognize it.

I am getting mixed information on this. Some people I talk to say it will work, others say it wont. Netapp says it won't.

Do you know this from personal experience? If so, do you happen to have the model of the drive that you used?

We recently did this in out lab and it worked. I can't guarantee that it works for ALL disk types but it works for these:
