Auto home dir mapping automagicly maps a user to a share for their home directory.

See the /etc/cifs_homedir.cfg file for a vol0 entry.

There's also the 'cfis homedir' command.

See also the File Access and Protocols Management Guide documentation.

I hope this response has been helpful to you.

The error sez 'Bad entry /vol/vol0/vol while processing home directory paths. Homedir path doesn't exist, discarding this entry.'

rdfile /etc/cifs_homedir.cfg

Look for an entry of /vol/vol0/vol, and remove it.

Best practice - I wouldn't keep any home dirs on vol0, though there is a default cifs share there.

I usually tell students to remove it right after cifs setup.

No entry found as of /etc/vol0/vol

Please find below output of cfg file

#

  1. This file contains the path(s) used by the filer to determine if a

  2. CIFS user has a home directory. See the System Administrator's Guide

  3. for a full description of this file and a full description of the

  4. CIFS homedir feature.

#

  1. There is a limit to the number of paths that may be specified.

  2. Currently that limit is 1000.

  3. Paths must be entered one per line.

#

  1. After editing this file, use the console command "cifs homedir load"

  2. to make the filer process the entries in this file.

#

  1. Note that the "#" character is valid in a CIFS directory name.

  2. Therefore the "#" character is only treated as a comment in this

  3. file if it is in the first column.

#

  1. Two example path entries are given below.

  2. /vol/vol0/users1

  3. /vol/vol1/users2

#

#

/vol

#/vol/SWLibrary

#/vol/SWLibrary/SWLibrary

Shailesh -

It's the entry for /vol in the file that's causing your troubles, I think.

All the rest of it is the standard default file, though every line should be commented out with a # char.

Hi,

What is the impact if I commented the line

§ /vol ?

Shailesh -

The impact should be that you stop getting the error messages.

All our cifs shares starts from /vol, in case I comment /vol, then cifs share will not be accessible

I think this is the impact, which may lead to production loss.

Your views ?

Shailesh -

Auto home dir mapping is seperate from your other defined cifs shares, which you can see with the 'cifs shares' command.

All path names start with /vol, the root of the file system.

No, this will not turn off all you other cifs shares.

Issue the 'cifs homedir load' command after you've done the comment on the file to load the changes.

I hope this response has been helpful to you.

There's probably some entries in /etc/exports that you need to clean up too ...
