Hello, I have a problem,

I have 9 disk 450go (7 assign and 2 parity)

But a have add 5 disk 275go to my aggregate and I see the total size is not egal to 7x450 + 5x275 but is 12x275 !

I see my error, as is the same aggregate, the disk 450go reduce to 275, it's ok ???

but how to remove my 275 from my aggregate ?

Hi,

Can you provide "sysconfig -r" and "sysconfig -a"?

1. General RAID concept is when you have disks with different sizes in a RAID group it will be rounded off to the disk which is smaller in size.  In your case it 275g.

2. You cannot remove disks from an aggregate. You need to destroy the aggregate and recreate it.

3. While creating aggregate NetApp best practice is use homogenous disks.

Hope the above information helps.

Is a problem, In my SAN a haven't any disk to recreate aggregate... who I have this without losing my data ?

chriskranz
6,245 Views

The only way to fix this is the hard way (very hard).

As you only have 1 single aggregate, and this is the root aggregate, you need to re-initialise the entire filer if you want to get these disks back. Copy all your data off the filer, then boot into maintenance mode and 4a the system. This will zero all the disks and create a new aggregate, then you can start again and create either 2 separate aggregates, or 1 aggregate with 2 RAID groups.

Sorry, I can't see an easy solution for you.

Yes but if a who I copy all data ? I have only 3 LUN

chriskranz
6,246 Views

Sorry, that I don't really understand the question?

You would probably need to copy the data out of the LUNs from the host side, then reconfigure the LUNs and copy the data back afterwards.

l_augeard
6,246 Views

Yes but in production I'm affraid...

And the vol with root of FAS2020 is in the same aggregate, who do it ?

chriskranz
6,246 Views

Hi,

Unfortunately there is no way to do this non-disruptively. To reconfigure the aggregate you need to take the system offline.

When you boot the system into maintenance mode and run 4a against the system, you re-initialise the aggregate layout and it recreates the root aggregate. Basically you'll be starting again from scratch. You might want to get a NetApp certified engineer on site to help you with this reconfiguration as it's quite involved if you haven't used a NetApp system before.

Cheers...

Yes and they are utility to save all LUN ?

chriskranz
5,130 Views

No, sorry, you'll need to manually copy the data out of the LUNs from the host side of things.

If you have a clustered NetApp, you may be able to juggle the storage, but you'll still need to copy the data across from the host side.

Hello,

I have a solution, my data is transfert to NFS share, Can you tel me who delete aggregate in maintenance mode ?

hi you need to reinstall your filer .

copy your /etc/rc and the exports  if it's exist.
