Hi VINAY

Do you want to connect a Windows server and an ESXi server to a NetApp filer? The multipathing method you use will depend on which data protocol(s) you use - NFS, iSCSI or Fibre Channel. Which ones are you interested in?

Vinay,

Adam is right, you should first decide on which protocol to use since there are differences on multipath configurations depending on the protocol you choose.

For FCP:

  • On Windows, you should use DSM MPIO from NetApp;
  • On VMware ESXi, you should use ESXi native multipath capabilities. Just make sure you use ALUA enabled LUNs and round-robin as the multipath path selection policy.

For VMware, also take a look at this: http://www.netapp.com/us/media/tr-3749.pdf

* there are amenities that should be considered depending on the protocol you use.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Pedro Rocha.
