I want to use NFS datastore with a netapp filer for virtualisation with ESX5

but I do not know how to estimate the necessary bandwidth for my infrastructure

I have 50 vms using a vfs of 2 X 1Gb ethernet nics  for the nfs

thanks for your help

Re: NFS calculate Bandwidth

and is this question one that your team handles or should it be addressed in the NetApp Support Community for Filers?

Re: NFS calculate Bandwidth

Looks like you were not able to help on this issue here.  We have external and internal subject matter experts in the NetApp Support Community answering questions about Data ONTAP.  If you have a NOW login, this link enables you to engage them about this.

Re: NFS calculate Bandwidth

I am not quite sure what you are behind; But you can get the bandwith if you know the the IOPS and the IO size.(andwidth =IOPS*IO size)

The maximum you can get out of 2* 1Gbps line is around 2*110MB considering you have configured your NFS clients to make best use of both the interfaes. Remember that the bandwidth you get mostly depend on the io size and io type (sequential versus random) etc.
