Qtree and CIFS-Share on a vfiler

Hi,

we use a script to generate new shares on our Netapp.

The script first creates a qtree and after a cifsshare with the same name.

What happens, if I want to move this cifsshare to another volume with the Windows Computermangement?

Does the Computermanagement although generate a qtree on the new location?

What is the qtree - only a folder or more?

Thanks!

Karl

I found this, because of the qtree / cifsshare question:

And must say is it not true. If I generate a new Share with Computermanagement, there is no qtree generated.

A qtree appears to a CIFS/NFS client as a folder/directory but to the filer it has added functionality e.g. quotas, qtree SnapMirror.

A qtree must be created before a share can be created on it, as your script does, therefore Windows Computer Management will also require the qtree to be created before the share.

I created a new share with Windows Computer Manangement and after the share I created the qtree. I saw no failure.

Works this, too?

But how can you create a share based on a qtree that doesn't yet exist? I guess I must be misunderstanding your question...

This the part I do not unterstand - what is the shortcut between a qtree and the cifsshare?

Only the same name of qtree an cifsshare?
