Open File Handle Parameter

We use network shares in our Lotus Notes Citrix environment. User data are stored on these shares. This use of approvals in connection with Lotus Notes has also been approved by the manufacturer. However, we have the problem that Lotus Notes crashes. The error message then reads: "Unexpected network error". The share is on an AFF A300, ONTAP 9.7P11.

According to a Lotus Notes consultant, the error is in the area of the limitation of open file handle parameters. This parameter is intended to ensure that the number of open files on the Netapp exceeds a certain limit and that the user files are then closed with a subsequent error message in Notes. Is there such a parameter or such a limitation on the Netapp? When we run the command "vserver cifs options show -vserver SVM_xxx", we cannot find the parameter.

In the share options there is also the parameter "branchcache". Could enabling this parameter help with our problem?

Our Citrix administrator has determined that the connection from the Citrix server to the NetApp filer was not interrupted when the network error occurred. There is therefore no error in the connection between Citrix and the NetApp filer. Many thanks for the support.

Based on your statement,  it looks like the lotus notes system is running out of resources (crashing).   If you believe that is not the case, changing the following parameters in NetApp cifs server could help:

Max Same User Session Per Connection: 2050
Max Same Tree Connect Per Session: 50
Max Opens Same File Per Tree: 800
Max Watches Set Per Tree: 100

The four values are already set in our filer. Can they be raised any higher?

Max Same User Session Per Connection: 2050
Max Same Tree Connect Per Session: 50
Max Opens Same File Per Tree: 800
Max Watches Set Per Tree: 100

Yes.

The raising of the values was unfortunately not successful. We suspect that the network connection will break if there is no data traffic over the established connection for a certain period of time. For about 90 minutes. Is there a parameter that affects something like that?
