Accessing the Sybase DB for perf data

I am trying to query some of the tables in the DFM schema in the Sybase database with a user that has GlobalRead. I am unable to do that. I am only able to query the views in the DFMGROUP schema and I am able to look at the data via views. However there are some data in the tables that are of interest to me. How should the user account be setup to be able to query the tables under the DFM schema? Are there any help info regarding that?

Thanks,

Arun

Hi Arun,

Only those under DFM views which are DFMGroup can be queried. Those other than what is exposed in DFM views are not exposed.

Here is the link to the TR that clearly details how to access the DFM.

Hi Adai,

May be I am totally wrong here, because I am not very familiar with what products are packaged into the DATA ONTAP solution. Currently we have DATA ONTAP 7MODE and I was told that we will be moving cluster mode very soon. Will this provide access to the tables in the DFM schema, or it won't be available in Cluster mode either ?

Thanks,

Arun

Hi Arun,

I am not clear on your question. The schema for DFM is same irrespective of 7Mode or clustermode. As a volume is a volume in both 7 and C mode. But there are new consturcts like vServer and lif etc which are not exposed via these view at least for CMode.

Hi Adai,

Thanks for the response. I meant to ask if it is possible to query the tables in the DFM database, because right now it looks like we can only access Views in the DFM Sybase database.

Hi Arun,

Only views are supported and exposed and not the dfm tables or its schema.

Is there a help doc somewhere that explains what the different fields in the Views in the Sybase database represent?

Thanks,

Arun

Hi Arun,

Only the view schema is documented, under the following 2 locations

  1. Operations Manager Console> Control Center > Help >General Help > Database Schema.
  2. OnCommand Console > Help  >Contents > Reports >Database schema

Hi Adai,

I wanted to revisit this conversation -- so is the document tr-3690.pdf (http://media.netapp.com/documents/tr-3690.pdf) applicable for both 7-Mode and Cluster Mode? Also, what is the NetApp recommended method to view performance data -- via database views or API ?

Thanks,

Arun
