Is Host Agent still necessary to manage LUNs from OCUM ?

Need clarification on OCUM 5.1

Looking at OCUM documentation, I understand that Host Agent is necessary  with SnapDrive to manage LUNs from OCUM.

The Host Agent seems not being maintained since 2009 (version 2.7) and seems not being available in 64 bits ...

We are having many FC and iSCSI LUNs.

SnapDrive is installed on Windows Systems from W2k3 to w2k8R2 (32 and 64 bits) that use the LUNs.

Therefore:

  • do we have to install Host Agent on all the windows machines using LUNs ?
  • do we have to install another software ? (that may replace Host Agent ...) ?
  • is SnapDrive the only NetApp software necessary to manage LUNs from OCUM ?

Any clarification will be welcome

Hi Alain,

you would need a SAN license to use this functionality and that license has not been available for many years, nor is it supported any longer.

The primary use of the NHA today is to allow OnCommand Unified Manager Core to manage OSSV services.

Thanks,

Kevin

Many thanks Kevin for this confirmation.

The LUNs (iSCSI) are currently visible in OCUM.

However, OCUM displays only the total size of the LUNs.

How and where OCUM shows the available and/or used space in the LUN ?

May be we missed something ?

There is no place to see that in Unified Manager.

System Manger can display the used space in a LUN as returned via an API call to ONTAP, although I do not believe that it will show the same value as the hosting OS for the LUN due the differences in what ONTAP is tracking for the LUN.

Hello Kevin,

Therefore we will use volumes space thresholds on OCUM and let the application manage the disk space on LUN.

Many thanks

Also NHA, is not required for managing luns using SnapDrives. Today NHA only serves 2 puroses.

For those who have FSRM license, it does host side file stats reporting  like file type, owner, size, access etc.

Else it help in remotely turning on and off the OSSV service from NMC.
