OCUM and OCPM backup & restore options

Hi,

we run scheduled backups for OCUM 7.1RC1 (vSphere Appliance) with the default path /data/ocum-backup/

That works fine.

But we would very much have the option to export / import our backups (download / upload via browser).

As this seems not been implemented, how can we do it via FTP?

FTP with the admin user does not work, and I don't want to manually create this temporary password for support purposes all the time.

Would it be possible to specify a remote share? If yes, can anyone confirm restore works from a remote share also?

For OCPM 7.1 RC1 (vSphere Appliance) there is no backup & restore option at all or is everything included in the OCUM backup?

Thanks!

Hi thomasb82,

[Yes, UM backups should work for shares(NFS/CIFS) as long as the system Jboss user has the pre-requisite read/write permissions on the share. When we configure the backup settings in the

OCUM web GUI Manager backups page, a test file is created to validate this and the operation throws the relevant error msg here and instructs user to provide the permissions.

[Since the 2 products are still as seperate binaries(WARs) and manage their own DBs, backup has to be taken seperately. However, In upcoming UM7.2, the UM backup would hold both UM and OPM backup and backup/restore management would be simplified].

If you are running in full integration mode, it's my understanding that OPM still requires a backup.  The problem is there is no scheduled backup with OPM.  We are being told this is being worked on

I once tried to mount an NFS export to the backup directory on the vApp.

Problem: the vApp is hardened and does not have any services (active) that are not required for OUM to run.

So a) there is no NFS client service and b) you would need root access to alter fstab. As soon as you do that you have an unsupported setup.

So I only see that as an option for RHEL or Windows installations where you have control over the OS.
