oncommand 5.1 cannot add v3140 storage system

I key in the IP address of the vfiler controller1 and I get the following error. What does it mean 'add the vFiler's hosting physical storage system' ?

Error: Can't contact new host xx.xx.xx.xx with SNMP or host agent protocol.

For host agents, make sure that host agent is installed and running on the

host. For vFilers, please add the vFiler's hosting physical storage system.

For other hosts, make sure SNMP is enabled on the host.

Run 'dfm host diag xx.xx.xx.xx' to troubleshoot.

Hi Daniel,

you must first add the physical controller hosting a vFiler before UM can add or manage a vFiler.

In this case it appears you are attempting to add a a V-Series controller - SNMP must be working between the UM server and the controller to be added.

Run the host diag as the error suggests and you will most likely find that the SNMP tests fail.  Either SNMP v1 or v3 must pass in order to add the controller.

Thanks,

Kevin.

I still am not sure what is meant by physical controller. Can I just use the vif address?

I ran the host diag command I have the following. SNMP shows configured the OnCommand system manager client.

One of the SNMP tests must pass in order to add that host to UM.

I added a public community to SNMP and it looks a little more happy.

Hi Daniel,

OnCommand Unified Manager doesnt talk to a vfiler directly. It does all of that by talking to the parent filer or the hosting filer. In your case you need to add the IP address of the Controller and not the vfiler.
