An Open Alternative for Hybrid Cloud

By Bryan Dean, Global Alliance Manager for Red Hat and  OpenStack Ecosystem, NetApp

Thousands of IT professionals, technology vendors, and delivery partners are set to converge at the Red Hat Summit in San Francisco, most of who are plotting their course to a hybrid cloud model. This show is different than most as it demonstrates a clear, open source alternative path to architecting, deploying and managing a hybrid cloud environment with partners that you can trust.

NetApp and Red Hat are celebrating 15 years of collaborative innovation in the open source community that boasts many accomplishments of upstream contribution, enterprise hardening, and mutual support of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization combined with NetApp’s world-class storage, data management, and FlexPod converged infrastructure solutions.  At Red Hat Summit 2014, NetApp and Red Hat will show how together we are building on this collaborative foundation and driving that same level of trust and dependability into open hybrid cloud solutions featuring Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform.

In San Francisco by the way, a wonderful venue choice, right in NetApp’s front yard, and where I personally grew up – we are looking forward to sharing how Red Hat and NetApp are collaborating on OpenStack community development and engineering to create a secure, elastic IaaS foundation that is optimal for mission critical workloads. Not only do we have session presentations and a full booth presence, we will be unveiling a new reference architecture, co-authored with Red Hat titled, “Deploying Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform with NetApp clustered Data ONTAP.”

Red Hat Summit provides the perfect backdrop to highlight NetApp clustered Data ONTAP as the storage backbone of our joint OpenStack solution that delivers secure, scalable, high performance storage and data management. Customers and partners will learn how NetApp’s contributions to the OpenStack Cinder, Manila and Swift projects expose value-add block, file, and object storage features such as SnapShots, data-deduplication, cloning, and secure multi-tenancy.

We look forward to seeing you in San Francisco, and spending time to discuss the challenges of storage and data management across private, public, and hybrid cloud environments and how maintain security, compliance, high-availability, and scalability in this rapidly changing IT world. Looking at the preview video of Red Hat Summit gives a sense of the excitement and transformational experience of our journey to an open hybrid cloud. See you there.
