From Solaris to other platforms, it can be easily migrated, just by doing a restore of the dfm backup. Is there any specific reason for not migrating from solaris?Given that its not a supported platform any more ? Regards adai

Is there a reason for you to move to 3.7.1 instead of 4.0.1 ? Is it because Solaris is not supported after 3.7.1 ? As we have made tremendous performance improvment's since 3.7.1 Regards adai

Hi, In the first place Host Agent is not required for OSSV backups. It only helps in remotely starting an stopping OSSV service from DFM. Did you set the credentials for your host agent ? Can you do a dfm host diag <agentname or id> your agent and share the output. Also you may consider upgrading to 4.0.1 the GA release of 4.0. Regards adai

Hi, Lag messages are not conformance actions. If you can post the following like, dfpm job detail <jobid>-----------Ignore this as you already did it dfpm dataset list –x <3283> dfpm dataset list –m <3283> dfpm dataset list –R <3283> dfpm dataset conform –D<3283> will help us to help you better. The error messages is generated when there a no relationships. Regards adai

Thats huge perf data, you have collected, I am sure with just 35 countrollers you cant get there with default 1 year retention. I suspect there are lot of state enties in the db. Pls get a case open against bug 439756 to prune your db as well as perfdata. If you want to open a case of upgrade open it against bug 432189.Also explore the possibility of going to Snapshot based backups. Regards adai

Hi, Can you get the output of dfpm job detail <jobid> for couple of failed jobs ? Also was there any specific reason for you to be on 4.0D16 ? Because IIRC some of the fixes in D releases are not rolled up in 4.0.1 So if the reason for you to be on D16 was due to any bug hit then you must make sure the same is available in 4.0.1(I can do that for you if you can give the bug id) In that case I would recommed you to request a D patch release on 4.0.1 with the specific D release items. Regards adai

I assume, you upgraded from DFM 3.8 or earlier to 4.0 or 4.0.1 Can you give me the size of your perfdata under the perfdata dir ? If there is lot of perf data, it is expected. As we widen some of the perffile for each counter group. To look what really took more time, go to the log folder and look for pa_upgrade.log. look for the following and take note of how long it took. for each of this. Upgrading counter group. ===================== Upgrading counter group Widening counter group: ================= Widening counter group Time for creating trendfiles.: ====================== Started populating trend files Completed populating trend files Also in order to reduce your perfdata files, take a look at the following bug.439756. Another suggestion to reduce your backup time from hours to minutes is to go for snapshot based backup, using SDW or SDU. Also using the PA feature of configuring data collection you can set different collection frequency and retention time for each counter group. You can also enable or disable data collection of a particular coutner for each storage system. the same template can also be copied over to multiple storage system. Regards adai

Hi, I would have to contradict you, Firstly the option is set to no by default, starting 3.8 before that it was yes. http://now.netapp.com/NOW/knowledge/docs/DFM_win/rel38/html/faq/index.shtml#_16.1 also the constraints on the schedule is removed. All the options are documented in the man pages. Regards adai

Hi Rich, We have both CLI and API to do it. Below is the cli. [root@lnx ~]# dfpm dataset snapshot reclaimable help NAME reclaimable -- compute space reclaimable from deleting snapshots in a volume SYNOPSIS dfpm dataset snapshot reclaimable <volume-name-or-id> <snapshot-name-or-id> [ <snapshot-name-or-id> ... ] DESCRIPTION Compute space that can be reclaimed if the specified set of snapshots are deleted from the given volume. [root@lnx ~]# dfpm dataset snapshot reclaimable 1615 21050 hourly.2 Approximately 457868KB will be reclaimed by deleting these Snapshot copies. [root@lnx~]# PS: Though its a dfpm cli its not necessary that the volume has to be a member of a dataset. The corresponding is the API. <snapshot-get-reclaimable-info> <snapshots> <snapshot> <snapshot-name>21050</snapshot-name> </snapshot> <snapshot> <snapshot-name>hourly.2</snapshot-name> </snapshot> </snapshots> <volume-name-or-id>1615</volume-name-or-id> </snapshot-get-reclaimable-info> Regards adai

Tanmoy is right, the modified export settings is only taken into account for the next provisioning request. As export or cifs settings are not conformance actions that are periodically checked and modified if they are changed. We can either have dataset level export settings or individual member level export settings. Regards adai

Hi Andy, Theoretically speaking there is no limit on how many NMC can connect to a DFM server. But practically speaking we see lot of performance and hangs in NMC screens when 3 or more NMC talk to the DFM at a time. To track audit.log must help. Regards adai

If you are not ok with disabling the CF for the whole duration of Migrate start(Baseline Completeion), you can enable it after migrate start and disable it again before cutover to make it happen. But for dfm to detect the change it would take atleast 5 min as the Clusterfailover monitor runs every 5mins. If you wish not to wait, you can do a forceful discovery as suggested by abishek using the cli dfm host discover. Regards adai

I am not clear on your question. Is this offline migration or online migration in the first place? “Migrated, cleanup required” is a state where the vFiler is migrated with cutover done, but the source vFiler is not cleaned up. But you mention, “I migrated a vFiler and re-established the snapmirror on the command line (outside PM) Now I want to clear the status in PM back to "not started" Give up or relinquish the migration? is that what you are looking for? Regards adai

Hi, Q1: Why is online not available for intra-head migrations? is it arp cache related? If I remember correctly its due the limitation of semi-sync snapmirror which is not allowed between cluster pairs. Q2: offline may work for this vfiler if the cutover (~1-2 minutes in the online case) operates the same (goes into semi-sync, then cuts over) - what will the NFS clients expect to see ? a timeout for the 1-2 minutes? Offline Vfiler migration only use asynchronous snapmirror and not semi-sync snapmirror. Regards adai

The baseline data comes from the Performance Advisor data that are collected since PA was collecting default counter info at 1 min interval. You dont have to generate any workloads, this is collected regularly based on the workloads that are already on the storage system. Like the user reads/write or application read/write. regards adai
